The ba(hons) digital arts course at kingston college is a franchised course validated by, and run in parallel with courses at thames valley university
prime05
the first intake arrived in october 2002; a healthy mix of students progressing from courses running within the college and students from outside the college and those returning to education after a break
this first group graduated in june 2005 and this was marked with a degree show held in the college's own penny school gallery
branded as prime05 the exhibition was a great success featuring a wide range of work that provided students the routes into the games industry, corporate motion graphics design, special effects, postgraduate courses and even in to teaching
the course also took part in the digital soup exhibiton held in the truman brewery in brick lane under the aegis of TVU
much of the prime05 website is still intact and active at
www.prime05.net
pixel06
the second group to complete their degrees at kingston, in contrast to the diverse approaches taken by their prime05 predecessors, took a much more focussed 3d and special effects based route
this was represented in the ultimate destinations of these students who are working in the 3d, games and special effects areas
a strength of the course is it's variety of approaches and accommodation of student interests and needs, all framed within an informed vocational approach leading to directly relevant employment
the students agin exhibited alongside their TVU peers at digital soup II in the truman brewery in brick lane

mouseup
the mouseup group that completed their degrees in june 2007 were a compact and tightly knit group of students that on the one hand had unique approaches and interests (pirates, programming and poplars) yet again managed to achieve high level skills in a wide range of eminently employable areas - video editing, storyboarding, 3d animation and general design skills
the show at the penny school gallery had (new to the course) generative and interactive art works, contemplative video pieces and innovative floor projections
the students also exhibited at the TVU organised pixelshake group show in hackney

cre08
the 2008 cre08 students took a very different approach to showcasing their talents, emulating (instead of a traditional gallery based exhibition) the zeitgeist cut and paste events so well known and loved by the design cognescenti
cut and paste events are full on gladiatorial challenges between designers, animators and illustrators where challebgers take part in 15 minute design jousts to ultimately reign supreme
the students battled over a number of rounds in front of a packed audience; dj's played, beers were drunk and battle was joined
